 The Target Triumvirate: Exploring the Judgement Behind Workplace Culture

 

At Playbox, we do not believe culture is just about “fit”.

It is about how people make decisions, respond to pressure, communicate with others, handle accountability, and contribute to the conditions that help teams work well.

The Target Triumvirate is currently organised around three practical culture domains:


Psychological Safety — how people respond to voice, challenge, trust and interpersonal risk.

Collaboration — how people approach support, knowledge-sharing, communication and collective problem-solving.

Goal Orientation — how people balance accountability, standards, learning and performance under pressure.


These domains provide a practical framework for exploring workplace judgement. As pilot data grows, the underlying structure of the assessment is being refined to strengthen the model and improve the quality of insight it provides.

 

What makes this different?


Unlike traditional personality tests or broad culture surveys, the Target Triumvirate focuses on applied workplace judgement. It uses a combination of scaled items and scenario-based questions to explore how people respond to realistic workplace tensions, such as:


Competing priorities
Pressure to deliver
Disagreement or challenge
Accountability after mistakes
Knowledge-sharing and communication
Fairness, trust and team development


The aim is not to label people as a “fit” or “misfit”. The aim is to generate structured insight into the kinds of judgements, behaviours and responses that can strengthen or weaken workplace culture.


 

Why it matters:


The success of any strategy depends on the people behind it.

Workplace culture is shaped by everyday decisions: whether people speak up, share knowledge, take responsibility, challenge constructively, support others, and stay aligned with long-term outcomes.

The Target Triumvirate is designed to help organisations open better conversations about these behaviours.

Used carefully, the assessment can support:


Individual reflection
Team development
Leadership conversations
Culture diagnostics
Coaching and development planning


This is not about excluding people who do not “fit”. It is about understanding how people approach workplace situations and identifying where development, support or better team alignment may be needed.


 

 

Current development status


The Target Triumvirate is currently in pilot development.

Early analysis suggests that meaningful and interpretable response patterns are emerging from the assessment. In the current pilot sample, two emerging item clusters are showing acceptable early internal consistency, with Cronbach’s alpha values at or above the commonly used .70 threshold. A third emerging cluster is under active review as the sample grows and item-level analysis continues.

This evidence-led approach is central to how Playbox is developing the tool. Rather than relying on generic culture claims, we are using respondent data, reliability testing, McDonald’s omega, item-rest correlations and ongoing item review to strengthen the assessment model over time.

At this stage, the tool is best used for structured insight, reflection, team development and pilot culture diagnostics. It is not yet presented as a final validated selection instrument.

Organisations who take part in the pilot can help shape the development of a more robust culture-assessment model while receiving early insight into workplace judgement, team culture and development themes.
